Anaesthetists have been issued with new safety guidelines for dealing with very obese patients, amid growing concerns about the health and practical risks that hospital staff and patients face because of rising obesity levels. Issued by the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland - which has been promoting safe anaesthesia for 75 years -the guidance aims to enhance the care of these high-risk patients.
